Remembrances of a Life Between Worlds
On June 20, I will present a recital entitled Remembrances of a Life Between Worlds.
Unlike many of my previous programs, this recital is deeply personal. The works were chosen not simply because they are pieces I enjoy performing, but because each reflects a chapter, memory, or experience that has shaped my life over the years.
As I prepared this program, I found myself reflecting on the many worlds I have inhabited: Indonesia and North America; student and teacher; performer and administrator; the certainty of the familiar and the uncertainty that accompanies change. Music has often served as the thread connecting these seemingly separate lives, preserving memories that words alone struggle to capture.
The title Remembrances of a Life Between Worlds emerged from these reflections. Rather than telling a single story, the program invites listeners into a collection of musical memories—moments of joy, longing, turbulence, nostalgia, humor, and transformation. Some pieces look backward, others forward, but all are connected by the experience of navigating change while remaining rooted in the things that matter most.
As I prepare for this recital, I am grateful for the teachers, mentors, colleagues, friends, and family members whose influence can be found throughout these musical selections. In many ways, this program is not only a reflection on my own journey, but also a tribute to the people and experiences that have shaped it.
I look forward to sharing this evening of music with you.
